Examinations (Check-ups)

• Regular examinations enable the dentist to detect oral disease in teeth, gums or oral tissues early to prevent pain and tooth loss.
• Your oral health is closely linked to your general health therefore it is important that your medical and social history gets updated at every examination.
• Signs of general medical conditions can be picked up from a dental check up.
• Oral cancer screening is also carried out at every examination.
• Dental x-rays are an important part of diagnosing oral disease and are taken if necessary.

Teeth Cleaning

• Gum (periodontal) disease is closely linked to your standard of oral hygiene and, to a lesser extent, your genetics and lifestyle.
• Gum disease and tooth decay are caused by bacteria so by limiting the amount of bacteria in the mouth, you can limit the disease progression. Therefore, it is essential for patients to maintain regular brushing and flossing on a daily basis to keep these bacteria to a minimum.
• Regular professional cleaning of your teeth and gums is an important part of maintaining your oral health. Scaling and polishing and deep cleaning of the teeth helps remove build up (tartar) and reduce inflammation of the gums in order to prevent pain and tooth loss.

• We are a part of NHS Childsmile which aims to improve the oral health of children in Scotland through education and fluoride varnish application.
• We encourage all parents to bring young children to the dentist from birth so that we can help your child maintain good oral health.
